TV Pick: The Big Idea With Donny Deutsch
Another favorite TV pick of mine is The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. The host can get a little out of hand at times, but he can definitely pull the big dogs of business in for an interview. From Paul Mitchell and Donald Trump, to Bill Gates and even Mike Tyson… he’s got heavy hitters coming on his show. Definitely check this one out.

Donny Deutsch is definitely a marketing guy and you can see it as he always seems to tie in his guest’s success and life in with marketing tactics. Sometimes that’s what gets him in a little trouble with his guests, but that adds to the show’s flavor in my opinion. Donny engages his guests by asking thought provoking questions to give his viewers more insight to these power hitting business people’s lives and business successes.
Unlike the "Your Business" show, Donny doesn’t have a show with segments, viewer’s e-mails, etc. He focuses completely on the guest, his/her experiences and how others can learn or be inspired from that. He takes his guests(and the viewers) back in time to "when it all started" and works his way to the present. From there, the business, the product and the service are broken down and explained. Most times, this is where talk shows drop the ball and lose the viewer’s interest, but The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch manages to ask the right questions, keep his guests engaged and ultimately turning out excellent interviews.

Hello Donny………..I viewed your show “THE BIG IDEA” early this morning and was very impressed on how you really care on assisting the little Inventor people who have a special product and need to make connections on how to bring it to the potential interested companies…My son has a prototype and a patent pending on a great product of which industry will show interest!!..this idea is FASTER,EASIER(for the delivery men)BETTER than the current devices used..I do hope you will have more shows of this type and some CREDIBLE} phone numbers posted for the listeners..TV never had this kind of show to connect with interested companies and inventors in 1974…I had the first 24 hr.timer inserted in the base of a perculator and the BIG GUNS saw it , and put the timer idea in their side wall mount. thus came the coffee maker to set the clock and wake up to fresh brewed coffee…But guess what!! I survived!! Donny, how can I purchase the inventors book shown on your show this A.M.? “Mommy Millionaire” by writer..Kim Lavine?? Not to be an ass, but I couldn’t resist leaving this gal’s comment up. I will say that I contacted her to help guide her in the right direction to get in touch with The Big Idea show though.
Good luck Helen! Tell me how everything goes.

Cyndi,
I think it’s great that you’re interested in expanding your company. The best way to get Donny’s producers attention is to:
1. E-mail Donny & his producers directly at donny@cnbc.com or…
2. Join his “American Dream Team“!
Best of luck.

Jason,
A Patent and it’s significance is a controversial subject. Many experts traditionally say you absolutely need them to protect your ideas, but nowadays many others are beginning to argue that stating all the money that is dumped into the patent process could be invested in getting your biz/product off the ground because let’s face it… no matter how new, cool, unique, complex or original your idea is SOMEONE WILL FIND A WAY TO COPY IT and after all the litigation and courtroom drama you may go through to defend your patent you may have dug yourself out of business and into more debt than you can imagine.
That being said, there’s plenty out there on patents. I’m not trying to dissuade you from patents, just wanted to mention that piece above. Quickly, I’ve provided some links below and soon I’ll be sure and post something in more detail about patents and what I know about them. Deal?
-Definition of “patent” from Wikipedia
- United States Patent and Trademark Office: The official government website for filing patents. Here you’ll find all the necessary documentation, regulations, processes and more. Patent searches and more are also conducted through this site. It can be overwhelming, so good luck:
- Google Patent Search: Google has teamed up with the USPTO and enabled you to search through all filed patents text documents. Great place while researching your potential patented idea and it’s FREE:
- Peer-To-Patent: The USPTO also recently launched a Pilot Program known as Peer-To-Patent, which was established as part of their “Patent Reform Initiative”. Interesting project. You may want to check that out when you get a chance:
- Word of Advice: One bit of advice I’ll leave you with is to conduct your own patent research before you go to the lawyers. It’s really not as difficult as some think to file a patent. Although many others will disagree, so get smart on patents and you be the judge.

I am sure like myself he was hoping for some kind of phone contact, since many times e-mails are overlooked, because they are probably inindated with them
